Families who relied on cost of living payments can still take advantage of other support avenues

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced a wide range of economic reforms in this week's Spring Budget, but one key lifeline was noticeably missing.

Furthermore, as spring gets underway, support provided over the winter months will no longer be available. Cold Weather Payments from the DWP, which see households given £25 one-off payments when it falls below zero for a prolonged period, will stop being paid at the end of March. So far, the scheme has provided more than £2.5 billion in welfare support through local authorities. The chancellor confirmed that an extra £500 million would be provided to enable the Household Support Fund to continue in England between April and September 2024.

Some energy suppliers have their own names for the scheme. For example, British Gas calls its scheme Peak Save and Octopus Energy runs Saving Sessions. Some suppliers also hold additional saving events. For example, British Gas Peak Save customers can save money on their bills every Sunday.
