Details of what went wrong in last week’s Singapore Airlines turbulence disaster are slowly coming out as investigators reveal their early findings.
A preliminary investigation has found last week’s turbulence-stricken Singapore Airlines flight experienced a sudden altitude drop in just a matter of seconds, violently injuring dozens of passengers and killing one.
The team investigating the incident – comprising of the Transport Safety Investigation Bureau of Singapore and US representatives from the National Transportation Safety Board Federal Aviation Administration, as well as Boeing – released a chronology of events based on early analysis on Wednesday. Picture: AP Photo/Sakchai Lalit.It said the aircraft experienced a “rapid change” in gravitational force as recorded vertical acceleration decreased.The report also revealed that vertical acceleration changed from negative 1.5G to positive 1.5G within seconds.
The Boeing 777-300ER contained 211 passengers – including 56 Australians – as well as 18 crew members when the disaster struck.
