Tasmania, Victoria and NSW have been told to brace for damaging winds and potential 'blizzard conditions' in some areas, as freezing weather tightens its grip on the nation's east coast.

Now, the Bureau of Meteorology is warning a low pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea will mean low temperatures persist over the start of the week, as well as bringing potentially dangerous weather. Parts of the island state experienced up to 20mm of rain and wind gusts of up 100km/h overnight, with the BOM forecasting more of the same throughout Tuesday.
