Las desertores de la LIV Golf han privado a Europa de varios baluartes en la Copa Ryder, algunos por primera vez en tres décadas.
Rory McIlroy aseguró el miércoles que ellos echarán de menos a la Copa Ryder más que los integrantes del actual equipo de Europa extrañan a sus colegas.
McIlroy hizo una breve pausa, al entender que sus comentarios podrían ser interpretados como otro dardo a los desertores, dado el tono combativo que ha adoptado contra la LIV Golf desde que la liga rival irrumpió en junio del año pasado. Los estadounidenses ya pasaron por esto tras disputar la Copa Presidentes el año pasado sin Dustin Johnson y Bryson DeChambeau. Patrick Reed tampoco pudo clasificarse y Phil Mickelson quedó fuera como vicecapitán.
El Equipo Europa tuvo a ocho a jugadores en Whistling Straits en la anterior edición de la Copa Ryder que luego dieron el salto a la LIV. Westwood, García, Poulter, Paul Casey y Bernd Wiesberger compitieron. McDowell, Stenson y Martin Kaymer fueron vicecapitanes.
