jockey Antonio Fresu and trainer Doug O’Neill becoming quite the team in the winner's circle
Juan Hernandez rode Eda to the filly’s seventh straight win in Sunday’s featured Grade III Rancho Bernardo Stakes at Del Mar.Fresu won 10 races over the past four days with five of the wins coming on horses trained by O’Neill. And the trainer won a total of seven races over the four days.The Fresu-O’Neill combination helped the trainer move past Phil D’Amato into the lead in the trainer standings. And Fresu moved from fourth to second in the jockey standings.
Fresu now has 23 wins at Del Mar — 10 of which have come on O’Neill horses. He also rode four Peter Miller horses, three Peter Eurton horses and two Mark Glatt horses to victory. Hernandez, meanwhile, picked up his 28th win with Eda. The $125,000 Rancho Bernardo — a 6½-furlong sprint on the dirt for older fillies and mares — was the fourth stakes win in the 4-year-old daughter of Munnings’ winning streak that dates back to Oct. 24, 2021.
