Eddie Jones is poised to pull a major selection surprise ahead of Australia’s opening Rugby World Cup match against Georgia.
Waratahs playmaker Ben Donaldson is set to start at fullback for the Wallabies in their Rugby World Cup opener against Georgia this weekend in another big selection surprise from Eddie Jones.
Donaldson has not started a Test this year and played just 22 minutes when he came off the bench against France in Australia’s last hit-out before their World Cup campaign begins on Saturday in Paris . It is understood that Donaldson was picked over Kellaway, and it was not a case of the latter being injured.
Jones has labelled Donaldson a “utility” player on squad lists and clearly sees enough value in him at fullback to pick him for a match that Australia cannot afford to lose.Donaldson has played fullback for the Waratahs in Super Rugby but is predominantly a No.10.
