His great-great-grandfather, whom he knew as a boy, was enslaved on a plantation where he worked as a stable boy. In Houston, Bruno didn’t just find a home but created one. With his wife, he raised five children. In 1982, he left the group, and with several other riders, helped found NETRA. It offered a home to so many of the Black cowboys and riders, many also from Louisiana, who were living on the northeast side of town, where even today you can spot horses and their riders sharing the roadway with motorists.
