Footage shows the final moments from inside a doomed passenger plane that crashed into a mountain in New Zealand, killing all 257 on board.

The disaster, which saw the flight fly directly into the slope of the scenic mountain during the 11 hour flight, led to years of bitter investigations in the country.

On the day of the accident, the flight’s Captain flew in two large loops, bringing the plane to a low altitude of 610m to give those on board a good view of McMurdo Sound. It’s a route the scenic flight had taken before without issue. According to reports, by the time the emergency alarms sounded within the plane, there was no time to pull away from the flight’s path towards the mountain. Within six seconds, the plane had ploughed head first into the slope.Another passenger sips a drink in the background. The tragedy was subject to two official reports in New Zealand.

There have been calls for a memorial and the re-airing of grievances thrown up by two official and conflicting reports conducted in the aftermath of the crash. Previous governments failed to table those inquiries in parliament until 20 years after the crash.
