One of two couples killed in a horrific quadruple crash on Victoria’s Hume Highway this week have been identified.
The incident unfolded on Thursday morning when a car carrying four people collided with a B-double truck in the small regional town of Chiltern, which lies between Wangaratta and Wodonga in the northeast of the state.
Mr and Ms Breen along with the other married couple, were aged in their 70s and confirmed to have been heading to Melbourne to see family and friends. “They’ve stopped off in Chiltern for a break and a coffee and they’ve gone to rejoin the highway at the intersection,” Assistant Commissioner for Road Policing, Glenn Weir, said on Friday.
Asst Comm Weir said the man behind the wheel of the B-double was travelling within regular highway speed limits but it was a “moment’s indecision” from the car driver that led to the tragedy.
