New South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas has promised to fight for his state’s interests even if it means conflict with federal Labor should it win power.
Malinauskas says he’s willing to go up against whoever wins the federal election to advocate for South Australia’s interests, citing his annoyance over a GST carve-out for Western Australia. “That is equally true if Anthony Albanese becomes the prime minister. I’ve got a responsibility to advocate the state’s interests within our federation.”Malinauskas said it “bugged” him to see the previous Marshall Liberal government “applaud a GST deal that left South Australia with less money and Western Australia got more”.
Malinauskas also flagged a shake-up of COVID-19 restrictions as a priority for his government to ensure greater consistency with other states.
