The nation goes into the third year of the pandemic with polling showing a clear line in the government’s fortunes as the election approaches.

Albanese is ahead with a small margin, at just a single percentage point, but the trend has gone his way. But the summer of discontent has wrecked the dream of a snap poll in March and tightened the race for the election in May.
