Elliott warns of ‘radical options’ if rail dispute not resolved soon | Mattonews Rabe9
Transport Minister David Elliott has warned he will pursue “radical options” if the rail unions fail to act in good faith and resolve their long-running dispute with the government over new intercity trains and pay within the next two weeks.to Sydney’s rail network for months, Elliott said in a best-case scenario he believed it could be settled next week if an agreement over modifications to the multibillion-dollar intercity train fleet and pay for rail workers could be reached.
Senior government officials are due to hold intense negotiations over pay with the six rail unions on Wednesday, the same day as rail workers plan to refuse to operate foreign-built trains. Confronted with Elliott’s statement, Tudehope – who has found himself at odds several times with the transport minister in dealing with rail unions – said he planned to take a more conventional approach.“If Mr Elliott has ideas relating to radical proposals they are purely a matter for him but as industrial relations minister, I only use the levers which are available to me,” Tudehope said.
