World's richest man Elon Musk reveals why he's buying Twitter
By Will Taylor
In a tweet on Thursday, addressed to advertising companies, he said: "The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilisation to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a health manner without resorting to violence."There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide in our society.
Commentators speculated if he would overhaul Twitter's terms and conditions after his remarks about free speech. But he said it "cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!"Mr Musk was filmed walking into Twitter's San Francisco headquarters carrying a sink. But his takeover has been mired by a staff rebellion over reports he could cut sack 75% of the company's staff.
