Elon Musk’s Twitter deal: Tesla CEO’s free speech pledge will backfire, say experts
Elon Musk’s pledge to do away with anonymity on Twitter will only serve to limit the very freedom of speech the billionaire is promising to promote following his $61.4 billion buyout of the social media platform, a leading privacy advocate has warned.
“Anonymity supports freedom of association, freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of speech. A lot of rights depend on the capacity under some circumstances to not have your online activities logged and exposed,” Mr Vaile said.
“The terms and conditions you accept when you click through to an app are a binding contract on companies. If they want to change it, they’ve got to get you to agree to it,” he said.
