Elon Musk previously said the changes to the way accounts are verified is ‘the only realistic way to address advanced AI bot swarms taking over’. appears to have removed the “verified” tick from theTwitter account after it refused to pay the $1,000 monthly fee the social media platform demands from companies.
However, Mr Musk has since rolled them out to tens of thousands of people willing to pay $8 a month for the privilege – while corporations were told to fork out $1,000 a month in order to keep gold ticks and verified staff accounts under its Twitter Verification for Organizations scheme. The spokesperson added: “We also will not reimburse reporters for the verification of personal accounts, except in rare instances where verified status would be essential for reporting purposes.”
