Breaking news this morning
Nottinghamshire Police has not confirmed whether or not it is affected by the problem. But Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire's police forces have posted on social media to warn people they have been impacted.
In a Twitter post, Derbyshire Police said: "Due to a technical fault affecting police forces nationally, we are currently experiencing problems with 999 calls. To report an emergency, please use the 101 number."A post from Leicestershire Police said "BT are trying to correct this fault ASAP." Those in affected areas are being urged to call 101 in an emergency until further notice.
Some fire services are also thought to be affected. Among the other forces who tweeted a similar message were Metropolitan Police, Greater Manchester Police, South Wales Police and Bedfordshire Police.
