Emily In Paris star Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu reveals she's in the next season of The Crown
Like The Crown – which has been accused of historical inaccuracy – Emily In Paris has been criticised by some in France for stereotypes ranging from berets to baguettes.The frostiness between Emily and her French colleagues is a central theme and, says Philippine, had echoes off-screen too. 'The Americans on the show did come to Paris thinking the French didn't know how to make TV and movies,' she says.
But The Mail on Sunday understands Philippine will play Monique Ritz, the widow of Charles Ritz, who sold the famous hotel in Paris to Mohamed Al Fayed in 1979. Her scenes are part of a back-story that culminates with the death of Princess Diana and Mr Al Fayed's son Dodi in a crash in 1997 after they left the hotel
The culture clash between the worlds of French and American style provides some of Emily In Paris's richest entertainment. In a brutally frank appraisal of her relationship with Patricia Field – that would no doubt impress tough marketing chief Sylvie – Marylin Fitoussi says: 'I am the costume designer. She's consulting, meaning that she approves or disapproves of the look. And when she doesn't approve my look, we fight. It's complicated – let's put it that way.
