Rural Doctors Association of Australia CEO Peta Rutherford says she “couldn’t have asked for anyone better” than Emma McBride as the new Assistant Minister for Rural and Regional Health.
“The fact that she has a health background and has worked in the hospital system really will give her some insight and understanding in relation to the portfolio,” Ms Rutherford told Sky News Australia.
“It’s certainly welcomed and I think will be a positive step moving forward for rural and regional communities to have a strong voice in the new parliament.” Ms Rutherford said it’s “certainly pleasing” to see the Albanese government implement a specific rural health portfolio.
