Emma Raducanu has announced she will miss this year’s grass-court season after undergoing surgery on a hand injury
“I tried my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and end of last year by reducing practice load dramatically, missing weeks of training as well as cutting last season short to try [and] heal it.
“Unfortunately it’s not enough. I’m having a minor procedure done on both hands to resolve the issues. The 2021 US Open champion has encountered several fitness problems in recent months, and pulled out of the Madrid Open last month with a hand injury. After reaching the last 16 at Indian Wells, Raducanu lost in three sets to Bianca Andreescu in Miami, then was beaten 6-2, 6-1 by Jelena Ostapenko in Stuttgart.
