French President Emmanuel Macron downplays a slapping incident as an isolated event on the second day of his tour of the country.

The assault occurred in the south of France when Mr Macron approached a group of people and one slapped him across the face.

The confrontation has led to the arrest of two men and Mr Macron issued a statement of resilience. “We must not let ultraviolent people take over the public debate, they do not deserve it,” the statement read.
