Epic Ride moves into the starting gate with Encino's scratch.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Encino, a 20-1 shot trained by Louisville native Brad Cox, has been scratched from the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby. Churchill Downs PR announced the news, attributing it to Encino being off after his Tuesday morning training. Encino, owned by Godolphin and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, had raced just once on the dirt in four starts, winning the Grade 3 Lexington in April. His removal means Epic Ride, ridden by Adam Beschizza, moves into the starting gate.
