"What we've got here is an example of phenomenally good, typical habitat for the rare and threatened species of the Mary River," the MRCCC's Steve Burgess explained as he filmed a sandy creek bank.Grazier Glenda Pickersgill lives on the banks of the Mary River downstream of the hydro proposal. In the 2021 census 1,071 people were living in Imbil, 11 kilometres downstream of the dam, but the community is rapidly developing with a large new subdivision and supermarket.
The Federal Environment Department is still assessing Queensland Hydro's application to begin exploratory works on the project.
