A surge in the cost of electricity has seen a record number of homes and businesses install batteries, a trend widely expected to continue.
Households and businesses installed a record number of batteries in 2022, a new report has found, as Australians sought shelter from energy price spikes of more than 20 per cent.
A record number of batteries were installed in Australian homes and businesses last year to store solar power.A report by SunWiz said installations of batteries connected to solar systems in 2022 grew by 55 per cent year-on-year. The data was compiled from government, industry and energy market operator data sources, it said.
“Solar battery installation will enable free energy generated by the sun to be stored for later use. Homes and businesses set up with solar and storage are guaranteed lower power bills, which will be a relief to many as we go into winter,” Mr Johnston said.Solar and batteries offer households some respite. Households can power their homes from rooftop solar and, if the sun is not shining, electricity from the battery is used instead.
