World’s No. 1 bowler ruled out of Big Bash in massive Sixers blow
England spinner Sophie Ecclestone has been ruled out of the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League after dislocating her right shoulder in The Hundred this week.
Ahead of Wednesday’s contest against the Southern Brave at Old Trafford, Manchester Originals captain Ecclestone was helped from the field after damaging her shoulder during warm-ups, later spotted donning a sling. On Saturday, the ECB confirmed that Ecclestone, the world’s No. 1 ranked bowler in ODIs and T20Is, had undergone scans and would be unavailable for the entirety of the WBBL, which gets underway in October.
The 24-year-old was expected to be snapped up by the Sydney Sixers as a retention pick at next weekend’s inaugural WBBL Overseas Player Draft. The left-armed tweaker claimed 20 wickets at 17.90 for the Sixers last season, helping the ladies in pink reach the final.Sophie Ecclestone of the Sixers. Photo by Will Russell/Getty Images
