We chat with Entergalactic EPs karinamanashil & Shift_leader06 about working alongside KiDCuDi and exploring modern love in a digital world:
Entergalactic combines the wonderful world of animation for adults with the elusive genre of visual films that accompany a musical artist's vision for a particular album. The newest Netflix project comes from the minds of Scott Mescudi and Blackish creator Kenya Barris, who tied the songs from his eighth studio album into a cohesive narrative about modern love.
Karina Manashil: Dennis and I both were there from the very beginning, because at that point, I was Scott's agent. Dennis has managed Scott forever and also grew up with him, so they've known each other their whole life. From your perspective, Dennis, what were the most interesting or surprising changes that arose between Scott first bringing the idea to you seeing the final product?
I also love this theme of how art can affect perceptions of love, given that both our leads are artists. What did you each take away from that story and the romance angle? Dennis Cummings: I think that, just like art, love is how you perceive things. Love is a type of art form, and people love differently. How you express love, how you express your heart, and how you perceive it is all up to their perception. Dennis Cummings: It had a lot to do with Scott's relationships, to be honest, and just reaching out to those teams and making sure that they consumed it. Also, Carmen Cuba pushed it with the casting.
