, an architecture company based out of Dartmouth, has been working hard to develop a new library design. On Sept. 28, they held two public consultations to get feedback on the current proposed design and get community members' insight on what they would like to see.
Regarding the aesthetic design choices, Lorenz-Luca wanted the space to feel cozy, “like a big hug when you walk into the door.” A large crowd turned out for the community consultations for the revitalization plan for New Glasgow's Public Library. Many people seemed enthusiastic about the changes, although concerns about accessibility were prevalent. Angela CapobiancoMembers of the 50-plus club were in attendance on Thursday morning, and they expressed their displeasure with the placement of their space behind the public library, where the current NSCAD studio is located.
Acquiring a new elevator, on the other, was an issue that she couldn’t reconcile, explaining that it’s simply not in the budget to install a new elevator. She estimated that the cost of installing a new elevator in the space would come to about a quarter to half a million dollars. “There are some concerns raised, but generally speaking, a positive response to this. This will continue to be the heartbeat of our community.”
