Man United's centre-back department has been scrutinised in recent weeks but perhaps one member has been forgotten in the midst of the transfer chaos
Manchester United's pursuit for a new centre-back is on hold after Harry Maguire turned down a move to West Ham United.
Very little has been discussed about the Swede's future. He leapfrogged Maguire in the pecking order last year and impressed at centre-back in the absence of Martinez. "Of course like every player, you want to play every game and obviously I haven't done that this season," Lindelof said in March. "But like I always say when I come here [international duty], it's a pleasure to be here and I'm always happy to represent my country.
With United in the Champions League, Lindelof may get more Premier League chances. He is the first cab off the rank if anything happens at centre-back, as we saw with Martinez going off at half-time on Monday night. With so much focus on Maguire, Lindelof has gone under the radar. United would be even more reluctant to lose him before the window shuts but talks in the summer might have been able to keep him content for another year.
