Errol Spence Jr. needed to slow down. Everything in his life was moving at a rapid pace. Inside the ring, his auspicious career was accelerating, bringing him to the cusp of boxing supremacy.

“I’m kind of, I’m not happy it happened, but I’m kind of gracious it happened because it made me slow down and put a lot of things in front of me and just sort out what I want and what I don’t want,” Spence told The Post.According to Dallas police, Spence was traveling at a high rate of speed when he veered over the center median and into the opposite lanes. His car flipped multiple times, ejecting Spence, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, from the vehicle. He was rushed to a local hospital.

What Spence wanted inside the ring had become clear – to win all four major belts and become undisputed champion of the world at welterweight. Outside the ring, he had goals for starting a family, being a father, and uplifting people around him. To realize that vision, Spence knew a change in his life was needed.

“I wanted somewhere I could go [that is] quiet, be in my thoughts, somewhere slower, not fast, and basically just chill,” Spence said. “Not everybody in your business. When you’re downtown, living in high-rises, you have to see people, talk to people, and people see you all the time, when you don’t really want to be seen. Out here, people mind their business.wanna come out here, so it gave a lot of people less access. It’s just a more conservative life, where you’re just chilling.

When Spence, now 27-0, meets Ugas , the WBA, WBC and IBF world titles will be on the line. Spence has been outspoken, despite having just one fight in two-and-a-half years, that he’s “the big fish” in the welterweight division, that he calls the shots, that he’s the best.
