"It is a matter of great regret that our colleagues and friends in Ukraine are not able to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest," BBC Director-General Tim Davie said in a statement. The UK's culture secretary Nadine Dorries said it is "Ukraine's Eurovision" and it would be a "privilege and honour for the UK to be supporting our friends".British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said last month he believed Ukraine could and should host the 2023 competition.
