Northern Territory Chief Minister Eva Lawler has labelled a senate review into a Darwin industrial development a “farce”, saying her appearance before the inquiry was “the worst couple of hours of my political life”.
NT Chief Minister Eva Lawler has hit out at Senator Lidia Thorpe after calling out the"farcical" senate review into a proposed energy project.
But critics say the development will see a massive increase in the use of fossil fuels and have dubbed it a “petrochemical hub”. “That Senate inquiry was probably the worst couple of hours of my political life and a real farce, and I’ll take that Senate inquiry report with an absolute grain of salt,” she said.
“So I thought, naively, I was appearing before a panel of people that had an open mind and were independent. “Even Sarah Hanson-Young, they would ask a question and literally they were on their phones straight after that, it truly was not what I thought it would be. “Many Territorians who have real concerns about the pollution this project will create took that as a type of blackmail, and an excuse for Labor's own failures.
