Our Everton FC correspondent Joe Thomas looks at the state of play as the squad deals with new injury concerns but is boosted by returns elsewhere
Everton’s summer fitness drive has been punctured by injuries. The best performance of pre-season so far was built on the return of a number of key stars as the Blues achieved a comfortable victory over Preston North End. But it was also an afternoon marred by new fitness concerns . There were several absences as Sean Dyche acted with caution as he sought to protect his squad.
Iroegbunam has enjoyed a good pre-season - Dyche praising him again after the win at Preston, when he said: “He is doing well, he has adapted quickly to what we expect and his body is changing to the demands we put on him physically. I spoke to him about that when he got here and I think he is enjoying it. He has worked very hard the last two games. I thought he played very well, it was a tough performance the other night but I thought he played well and stuck to task.
