Roberts and Clooney rose to mega-stardom around the same time period in the mid-'90s. Roberts' breakthrough came in 1989 with Steel Magnolias, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and won the Golden Globe in the same category.
This is a movie filled with heavy themes relevant to modern economic crises, but it never manages to reach those lofty ideas, instead settling for a tense and dramatic thriller. Clooney is excellent as a fast-talking network personality who realizes that his actions and words can have terrible consequences if he’s not careful. He and Roberts work well together as employees with a history that is never explicitly stated.
3 Ticket to Paradise Leading the cast of Ticket to Paradise, Clooney and Roberts play David and Georgia Cotton, a divorced couple who hate each other and regret the time they shared together. Their daughter, Lily , goes on a vacation to Bali and meets a man for whom she drops her promising law career, and to whom she announces her intention to marry after only a month. David and Georgia recognize their daughter is making the same mistake they did and agree to an uneasy truce to put a stop to it.
