It's not a day to be missed
The parade will be back on Sunday, March 12 and will begin at 11am at Millenium Square before travelling through Leeds City Centre and returning to the square at 12pm. Festivities will include a programme of live music and dance on Millenium Square until 4pm.
This year, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Robert Gettings MBE JP and his wife Lady Mayoress Councillor Lesley Gettings will be at the ribbon-cutting ceremony along with Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington. and it's also worth noting the road closures due to the parade.What’s happening and when The parade will include colourful floats and walking displays from the Leeds Irish community including schools, sports groups and cultural organisations.
During the afternoon festivities, the square will be filled with music and dance, including performances from the Leeds Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, Helen Rowland Academy of Irish Dance, Joyce O'Connells Dancers, Leeds University Union Dancers, the Leeds Irish Choir, Strangers in Trainers and music sets by Tommy K the DJ.
There will be a bar as well as food and drink stalls. Due to the closure of Cookridge Street, the ribbon cutting will take place on Millenium Square. The flag bearers and walking displays will leave the Square via the route beside Nelson Mandela Gardens and Be At One. They will then head out onto Great George St, turning right into Albion Street and onto the Headrow.Road closures There will be some road closures in place to help the event run smoothly. These restrictions will be in place throughout the festivities.
