The former Hells Angels twins ultimately forfeited $75,000 each after seeking leniency in crime confiscation laws, and authorities unfroze other assets including the motorcycles and remaining cash from home sales. The court orders for Nuno and Bruno Da Silva were obtained by the ABC in an investigation into laws designed to strip organised crime's profits.
It was the brothers' second asset-confiscation fight: years before being jailed, they had made headlines by getting back $129,000 that police seized in a shopping bag underneath Bruno's car driver seat, which they successfully argued was cash gifts from Nuno's wedding. Since being released from jail, the twins have been photographed competing at poker tournaments in the Star's Brisbane and Gold Coast casinos in 2022.The Da Silvas ran a Brisbane locksmith but pleaded guilty in 2015 to trafficking methylamphetamine. Nuno received a seven-year jail term with potential parole from February 2016; Bruno a nine-year sentence with potential parole from October 2017.Prosecutors suspected the Hells Angels had supplied drugs to the brothers, who had officially resigned from the club, and that they were selling to street dealers.'Junkie I am going to put a bullet in your leg I swear on my mum,' Bruno allegedly messaged one customer. After their October 2013 arrests, authorities restrained assets, including proceeds of home sales, motorcycles and even a winged skull ring. The pair previously made headlines after they successfully argued that a bag of cash seized by police was a wedding gift to Nuno Da Silva (pictured).Eight years later, each man forfeited $75,000, the ABC can reveal. Bruno had argued the motorcycle would be his 'only form of transport' upon release and no 'illegitimate sources' had funded its $26,495 purchase. Nuno told the court he had purchased his Harley for $27,300 from legitimate sources, which partly included cash proceeds from a former locksmith employee, who also pleaded guilty to supplying drugs.
