Sean Porter, 32, of Lakewood, pleaded guilty in August to multiple felony charges of abduction, interference of custody, forgery and tampering with records after a grand jury fist charged him in a 41-count indictment in November.
John Kuntz file photo | For cleveland.comCLEVELAND, Ohio -- A judge on Tuesday sentenced a former attorney to prison for a list of crimes that included forging a Cuyahoga County magistrate’s signature on a fake order that granted his client custody of the man’s daughter and sparking a child-kidnapping incident.
The Ohio Supreme Court suspended Porter’s law license in December for two years for having sex with two of his clients in unrelated misconduct. He had practiced law in Cleveland. The mother let the girl stay with a relative of her father, who then called Porter and asked if the girl could stay with the father. Porter said she could and then forged an order from Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court Magistrate Lynne Chavers that granted the father emergency custody.
They later learned that, despite taking their money, Porter stopped filing motions in their cases he promised to file. In some cases, he forged their names on filings they did not sign off on.Two of the clients said that Porter began charging them for text messages. One said that he insisted she pay him in cash.
“Listening to the pain and anger from your former clients was a hard thing to go through,” Gallagher said.
