Nationals heavyweight John Anderson says he may oppose the Indigenous Voice to Parliament over concerns Australians are being shamed for asking genuine questions.

[about the Voice] to ask are being shamed over an expectation to sign a blank cheque in relation to the rule book we all live by as Australians.Unlike the Yes campaign, which has a high-profile leadership team in place and more to be announced in coming weeks, the nascent No campaign is yet to consolidate behind a single group and fundraising body.

He also confirmed it would apply to the federal government in February for the same tax designation – known as deductible gift recipient status – that the Albanese government bestowed upon the Yes campaign, to aid fundraising efforts. Sources close to the outfit say Mr Anderson is expected to sign on as a director.

“We’re pulling together a really good group of people including former politicians, young people and others who can send out the message to different areas,” Mr Mundine said.He said the group’s campaign mission so far was to “simplify” the debate, with early slogans for a social media campaign likely to include “It’s okay to say no” and “Recognition, a better way”.

The No campaign is now targeting a launch date in the last week of March after the NSW state election, or early April. At one point, Liberal-leaning think tank the Institute of Public Affairs was expected by some members of the No campaign to function as a fundraising body, given the free-market research organisation qualifies for tax-deductible donations.
