Paul Shepherd was part of a drugs gang who trafficked cocaine across the North West
The downfall of an ex-professional footballer began when he was found with a gun once stashed in the home of a Kirkby nan.
Liverpool Crown Court heard in March 2021 how Marie Jones text her grandson just before 7am on March 23, 2020, saying: "Gun out now." One of those weapons was the Howa rifle which, when seized from Shepherd, was forensically examined and found to have Wignall's DNA on it. This included a property in Bradford which was used as a laboratory in an unsuccessful attempt to extract cocaine from oil, and a second address in Leeds stored and pressed kilo blocks of the drug for onward supply. At the Leeds property, officers found 13 kilos of amphetamine, large quantities of chemicals used to dilute cocaine and equipment that evidenced 12 kilos of cocaine was repackaged there.
Marshall, whose EncroChat username was ‘kingchef-uk’, was employed by O’Flaherty to dilute, press and repackage the cocaine blocks to be ready for distribution – a role often titled ‘chef’. He also setup a company named ‘Northface Landscaped Ltd’ to launder the cash proceeds from the gang's activity.
