The two-time Pro Bowler reportedly died after a battle with lung cancer.
Jones is a native of Pittsburg, Texas and played collegiately at Texas State. He was a 20th-round pick, 278th-overall, of the Houston Oilers in the 1963 draft. He didn’t play in a regular season game for the team before heading to the New York Giants in 1964.
He played for the team through the 1969 season, earning Pro Bowl honors in 1967 and 1968. He led the NFL in receiving touchdowns in 1967, too.
