Ex-Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder’s lawyers have shared their final expected witness list for Householder’s ongoing federal corruption trial. Among them: Householder himself.
Householder and Borges are accused of participating in a scheme through which Householder pushed HB6 into law in exchange for $60 million in bribes from Akron-based FirstEnergy Corp.
Borges worked on the effort to defend HB6 from a repeal campaign. Prosecutors have said as part of his work, Borges, which ultimately failed, in exchange for private information about the campaign. For instance, Rep. Bill Seitz, a Cincinnati Republican, said the bill preserved clean, in-state nuclear generation. Rep. Brett Hillyer, a Republican from Uhrichsville, said he never saw Householder threaten or pressure anyone for votes on HB6. Rep. Nino Vitale, an Urbana Republican, said even though he normally “intensely” dislikes subsidies, hebecause federal policy stymies certain generators from making money.
