Gareth Southgate has named his 26-man England squad for Euro 2024
Ex-Preston North End loan men Jordan Pickford and Anthony Gordon have made the England squad for Euro 2024. On Thursday evening, Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad was confirmed for the upcoming major tournament in Germany. Seven players needed to be cut from the group of 33, picked for the two warm-up friendlies - those were chosen as James Trafford, Jarrel Quansah, Jarrad Branthwaite, Curtis Jones, James Maddison, Jack Grealish and the injured Harry Maguire.
Luke Shaw has not played since February, but Southgate expects to have the left back available during the group stages. As for the two former North Enders, the inclusion of Newcastle United man Gordon - who spent time on loan at Deepdale in 2020/21 - is bad news for Grealish, who won’t be there. Pickford had a magnificent loan spell at Preston in the first half of the 2015/16 season, and he is set to remain England’s number one at another major tournament.
