A-level results day is next week, but if your teen doesn't get their desired grades clearing can offer a second chance at a university place.
A-level results day is just around the corner falling on 15 August. It's likely stress levels are rising in households across the UK as the big day approaches. For students hoping to guarantee a place at university a lot depends on the grades they are given.
From 5 July – 21 October 2024, students can apply for a course using Clearing provided they’re not already holding an offer from a university or college, and the course still has places.The process works by helping students find out which university courses still have places remaining. Members of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities were advertising nearly 3,900 vacancies on courses for domestic undergraduates starting in autumn, compared with 2,000 at this point last year.
After your teen has found the course they're interested in, they can give the uni a call direct to double check they meet the entry requirements and they still have vacancies. This will reveal their top 50 course university and course matches. They can then tell the universities they're ‘interested’ in their courses. If they still have vacancies and the student meets their entry requirements, they may call back.
It remains open until 18 October, just after the new university term has begun. The idea is that teens identify courses, which still have spaces, that interest them and then they contact the institutions directly.
