In an exclusive interview with Sky News host Peta Credlin, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said any royal commission should probe the prospects of a national registry arguing hazard reduction burns were "as important as emissions reduction". “Hazard reduction is as important as emissions reduction … and there is not a national system of reporting to track how hazard reduction is progressing," Mr Morrison said.
“There has been plenty of chat about emissions reduction and that’s fine. But it’s hazard reduction though is the thing though that is going to take a more practical effect on how safe people are in future fire seasons." The Prime Minister told Sky News “Australians have an expectation which isn’t currently met,” and he wants to know “where the trigger line is” to be able to “take the initiative” to move in and get the necessary resources in place.
