The Northern Ireland Executive has agreed a deal to pay out £688m for a pay rise for public sector workers as part of its £3.3billion funding agreement with the British government.
First Minister Michelle O'Neill said on Thursday that the newly formed Executive had reached an agreement over the pay award. Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly added that they needed to get money to workers 'as soon as possible'. “The funding package should balance the Executive’s budget this year, provide significant support over the next two years and arrest the ‘Barnett squeeze’ over the longer term.
