A survey of executive remuneration by consulting firm PwC and a separate report by the Australian Public Service Commission reveal strong recovery in pay rises.

Internally promoted CEOs tended to receive 22 per cent less than the previous boss, while external hires earned 14 per cent less.
In 2021, the average base salary for males in the APS was $102,112 while the average base salary for females was $96,006.
