Former adviser to Tony Blair, John McTernan says the results of exit polling - suggesting a majority Conservative win - is a 'stunning rejection of Jeremy Corbyn and everything he stands for'.

Former adviser to Tony Blair, John McTernan says the results of exit polling - suggesting a majority Conservative win - is a stunning rejection of Jeremy Corbyn and everything he stands for". "He needs to stand down immediately," he told Sky News.

The exit poll numbers would give Prime Minister Boris Johnson a Commons majority of 86 - a total of 368 seats - vindicating his decision to push for a winter election. "Once you lose the heartlands... you can't win an election with only urban seats," Mr McTernan said. By contrast, Labour is set for its worst defeat since 1935 with a loss of 70 seats and a total 191 seats. A Conservative victory would make Mr Johnson the most successful Tory leader since Margaret Thatcher.
