We've heard for months that the 2023 NFLDraft has a plethora of quality cornerbacks. Expect them to fly off the board on Thursday night. Here's what to watch for.

While I’m not sure there will be quite that manytaken in the first round, I do believe he’s on the right track with how much talent there is at defensive back in this draft class.with 2023 NFL Draft props have set the over/under around 5.5 defensive backs taken in the first round and list the over as an odds-on favorite. Given some of the top talent in this class at a premium position like cornerback as well as at safety, that’s not too big of a surprise.
Obviously, each of the 32 teams has completed its own evaluations of these players, and their big boards will all look different from each other and ours. The final draft result won’t be exactly the same as our TDN100 big board. But to have more than 20% of the top 50 be defensive backs is still notable.
Cornerback has been a premium position in the NFL for a long time, and in a league that’s only gotten more pass-happy in recent years, that premium value continues to climb. Quarterbacks and receivers are only getting better at their jobs, so teams need to bring in the talent to stop them on the defensive side of the ball. That’s why this year’s draft, which features so much elite talent at the position in this class, will see defensive backs come off of the board early and often.
Just as every receiver in the NFL comes with different skill sets and physical traits that certain teams and offenses take advantage of, so do the defensive backs playing across from them. That’s another part of what makes this draft class of defensive backs so interesting. Just about all of the top players at the cornerback and safety positions are dogs with alpha mentalities, but their skill sets also range to fit what the different, defensive back-needy teams are looking for.
