Medicine costs for pets can also be eyewatering, particularly when owners buy directly from their vets, rather than going online. The CMA says some vet practices may make up to a quarter of their income selling medicines – so there may be little incentive to make pet owners aware of alternative places to buy.
Geraldine was also paying twice as much as she needed to for her dog's heart tablets. By buying the medicine online, she calculates she saved around £900 per year.
