Shadow Education Minister Alan Tudge has discussed his proposal for universities to offer partial refunds to students for substandard educational experiences since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s hard to know exactly how bad it is, but certainly I hear from parents and students directly all the time that they were promised to have an in-class experience, an on-campus experience, but have been delivered something very different,” Mr Tudge told Sky News Australia.

“Sometimes three-year-old grainy lectures that have been delivered rather than what they were promised. “And in that instance, they are simply not getting what they were sold, and consequently, I believe the universities should be providing some sort of fee compensation in relation to that point. “Student satisfaction ratings have collapsed, largely due to COVID, and so now we need an extra effort to really focus on the student experience at universities and particularly to deliver according to what they promise students.”
