Questions and eyebrows have been raised over the supposed appointment of a 'colourful' media veteran to oversee the public affairs of New South Wales' top cop.

2GB's Ben Fordham has suggested NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb will already be on the lookout for a new media chief, despite a report she had just hired a media veteran to fill the position after being criticised for her delayed response to the alleged murders of a Sydney couple.Questions and eyebrows have been raised over the supposed appointment of a"colourful" media veteran to oversee the public affairs of New South Wales' top cop.

"I was getting phone calls from people I know in the media, senior police officers, all questioning this decision," he said to 2GB host Ben Fordham on Tuesday. Ben Fordham claimed the appointment of Mr Jackson had raised eyebrows in the police force, suggesting he could be let go before even starting his role. Picture: NCA Newswire / Gaye Gerard

Fordham went on to claim Commissioner Webb was"nervous" and that his"bet" was she was already on the search for"yet another spin doctor" to replace Mr Jackson. It comes after Ms Deegan's departure was confirmed last Wednesday. The top cop then did the media rounds two days later, attempting to dispel commentary and make up for not fronting up earlier, and used a reference from popstar Taylor Swift's hit song Shake It Off during television and radio interviews.
