Nightmare for Ricciardo, who has retired after a cooling issue! 😢 LIVE:
10. Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari
Race stewards decided to take no punishment on Saturday night over the incident, claiming ‘conflicting signals’ were shown to Hamilton. Valtteri Bottas started on pole and broke away from the pack early, extending a three-second advantage over Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by the tenth lap. Then Verstappen copped a nightmare technical failure with his power/electrical system which forced him to limp back to the pits and subsequently retire in the 12th lap.
Lance Stroll of Racing Point was struggling for some time with engine troubles, and was forced to retire in the 20th lap, while Romain Grosjean of Haas spun but managed to continue. His fellow Haas Kevin Magnussen was subsequently retired after suffering a brake failure on his right-front wheel, forcing a safety car on lap 26.
George Russell was the next to go, his Williams parked on the grass after yet another failure. That drew out the second safety car. No sooner had it disappeared when Kimi Raikkonen’s Alfa Romeo then became the seventh retirement.
